About Me
Currently I'm a university student pursuing a bachelor's degree in Computer Science at the University of Calgary, and I also work as a web developer on the side.
My bread & butter lies in designing and developing websites and webapps on a LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) stack, although I am experienced in working with Nginx as a server as well. jQuery would be my Javascript library of choice on a web project. However I can settle with Mootools or YUI if really needed. I've worked with many CMSes but I'd have to say that Drupal and Wordpress are my two favourites.
Recently I've also been working on projects outside of the web sphere such developing iPhone apps in Objective-C, and working on various school projects for the computer science curriculum, some of which involved programming desktop apps for Windows with WPF.
I started out as a designer due to my love for the arts but also found that I enjoyed programming as well. In the past, I've been fortunate enough to land a stint with Critical Mass where I learned plenty about the digital advertising and interactive services industry, and experienced what it was like to work for big brands like Valvoline and Mercedes-Benz. Thanks to the vast amount of knowledge I learnt through my experiences there, paired with the programming skills I gained learned in computer science courses, I managed to develop a Facebook application for Nintendo Wii owners which had a userbase of 10000+ users at its peak.
Since leaving Critical Mass to go back to school to finish off my degree, I've been working with Mediumrare as a contractor on various projects.
In my free time, I like to write about web development and design at my blog: goSammy.
